W. Scott Schneider
W. Scott Schneider is a partner with the firm and handles the defense of hospitals and physicians, medical groups, nursing homes and related healthcare professionals and institutions as well as transportation liability and general negligence actions. He is a graduate of Hobart College and the University Of Bridgeport School of Law, and has been a litigator for the past 25 years, trying over 100 cases to verdict. Mr. Schneider was admitted to the New York State Bar in 1988 and the United States District Court of the Eastern District of New York in 1992. He was then admitted to the United States Court of Appeals, Second Circuit, in 1994.
Earlier in his career, Scott served as a prosecutor for the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office from 1988 through 1992 before becoming an Assistant County Attorney in the Federal and State Litigation Bureau of the Suffolk County Attorney’s office. As a senior trial attorney he defended the County of Suffolk in numerous personal injury, civil rights and official misconduct cases, and was appointed to serve as the head of the State Court Trial Bureau where he supervised a team of trial attorneys and support staff. Mr. Schneider’s bureau was responsible for defending Suffolk County in approximately 1200 cases covering all facets of general litigation. He personally handled all significant litigations, trying over 50 cases to verdict with a 90% success rate.
In 2003 Scott joined Ivone, Devine & Jensen as a partner where he focused on representing physicians, hospitals and other health care providers in the defense of medical malpractice actions. Since then he has obtained 21 consecutive medical malpractice defendant’s verdicts at the Supreme Court level. In 2009, Scott was asked to co-author a chapter in Medical Malpractice in New York [3rd ed. 2009], the textbook on medical malpractice litigation published by the New York State Bar Association. He is also a former associate adjunct professor at Stony Brook University, Dowling College, and Suffolk Community College, and has lectured on litigation and related topics for the New York State Bar Association and the American INNS of Court of the Touro College Jacob P. Fuchsberg Law Center.
